Information technology (IT) support and service companies can now work on systems physically or through a remote connection from anywhere in the world. Although many services advertise that there is no difference, anyone attempting to decide between the two options should understand that there are. These differences are subtle and might not affect many businesses.
One of the main issues is that online IT support companies are not receiving the complete picture when attempting to repair or perform maintenance on a system. The online professionals cannot Read the rest of this entry »

A cell phone with a data plan can often be used to connect a laptop to the Internet. There are some requirements that you and your phone must meet in order to either tether your phone to your computer or use your phone as a Wi-Fi hotspot.

The obvious result of using a wireless modem is for broadband connectivity to a device; PC, cellular phone, etc. The modem naturally has a wired connection for electrical current, the wireless aspect comes by the ISP (My family found the best Idaho Internet Providers online) and the means of transferring the connection via USB card (connected to a PC, Laptop, or host device).
The OS (Operating System) such as Windows will configure a wireless connection with the “Wireless Set-up Network Wizard” found in the Communications tab. This wizard will transfer the ISP configuration to the USB card enabling a wireless connection that can be used by remote devices. Once established, you simply insert the USB card into a USB device (Laptop) and the connection can be used without a hard-wire (Ethernet) connection. However, if away from the modem, the connection will be searched for by the device and allow the user to log-on to other wireless connections (Hot Spots). Some are protected and can only be accessed when the password is known.
The connectivity using a wireless device will vary. The signal strength is displayed on the device as are the available connections. Be advised that when using wireless connections the data can be accessed by others, just as a PC is hacked and subject to viruses.
Hey, everyone. I hope this post finds you all doing well and preparing for a wonderful holiday season with your friends and family.
I realize it has been a long time since I stopped by to share some thoughts and opinions on the latest computing technology, and I am very sorry about that. It has certainly been a wild few months, with several trips out of the country (both for business and vacation), a long, scary stint in the hospital, and even a few family crises that needed dealing with. Everything is okay now though, so I have ample bandwidth to contribute to this site more often.
Every advanced Web designer, Web developer, or online gamer knows the benefits of utilizing a multi-monitor system. Now, as less of a technology buff, you may find yourself thinking that dual monitors are unnecessary for your basic computing functions. I am here to explain why even if you are doing little more than emailing and word processing, a dual monitor approach is great.
Think about all of the windows you may have open at once, even on an average day. A Web browser, a Word document, a spreadsheet, an email client, a picture, etc. Even with half of those things, it gets very cluttered.
By easily connecting two monitors, you are able to move windows back and forth between the monitors, clearing up your virtual workspace considerably.
So, even if you are performing the most basic of functions, think about adding a second monitor to your workstation. You will not regret it.

Any laptop computer made within the last three years has a built in modem to detect wi-fi signals. It may be necessary to set up your connection and apply security to it to keep others from hijacking your signal. That is essentially the more difficult part of getting the signal.
Any laptop with an internal modem can pick up signals at hot spots and businesses that offer free connections when you come inside. That is Read the rest of this entry »
Connecting your computer to a wireless router can be easily accomplished. There are a few things to know before you get started, however. Does the router have a password (WEP key or similar)? With all the malware, viruses and spyware that seem to be cropping up all over the internet, it can be a roll of the dice when downloading software online. Anti-virus programs can help protect your computer, but they always seem to ask if you are sure you want to download and that the software may cause harm.
Most sites are safe to use and the downloads are generally virus free. This is not to lead you to believe they all are. You still have to be aware of what is and is not a trusted site. Many Read the rest of this entry »
